Grigol Liluashvili is the head of Georgia’s State Security Service. He dismissed allegations relating to a recording that was distributed by “Kiber Kmara,” calling the claims nonsense and part a pre-election campaign.
Liluashvili responded to rumors circulated in “Kiber kmara” about Ekaterine Khvedelidze – the wife of Bidzina ivanishvili – the honorary chairman of “Georgian Dream”. He ridiculed these claims. He called the allegations “funny”, and said they were not worthy of investigation. He added that these “TV series” were part of a larger, orchestrated campaign tied to the election season. He also said that the claims were meant to accuse Georgia’s special services of listening in on politicians and their family members.
Liluashvili said, “They are making a thousand nonsense. We are waiting for more TV series, particularly during the pre-election time.” He said that this isn’t the first time he’s seen such “serials” and questioned why they should be investigated.
The controversy stems a story that was aired on TV Pirveli, which allegedly involved State Security Service and Ivanishvili Family in a wiretapping scam. Liluashvili denied the recording’s legitimacy and suggested that the claims were part a larger, coordinated campaign to create confusion ahead of the election.
