In a report seen by The Guardian, German and British think-tanks urged decision makers to create a “NATO Bank” to “ proof” the alliance’s spending on military equipment.
The Guardian cited a joint report by The New Diplomacy Project, the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and The Guardian as saying that allies should prepare for Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election next month. He could reduce U.S. military spending in Europe quickly, push for a deal in which cedes parts to Russia, or even withdraw from NATO.
The report suggests that to reduce the impact of a Trump presidency, NATO nations should support the establishment of an institution for multilateral lending, which is essentially a NATO bank.
