**Police Take Detainees’ Belongings Illegally**
People being held by police during peaceful protests are having their personal belongings taken from them, says Nona Kurdovanidze of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA).
Kurdovanidze said many people who were detained reported that police took their phones, laptops, and other things. Some even had to give up their phone passwords.
**Police Don‘t Return Belongings**
Some people claimed that police didn’t return their belongings when they were released from detention. In some cases, police officers took the items without following proper procedures. They may have kept them or given them to others as a way of punishing the detainees.
**Victims Threatened and Harassed**
Kurdovanidze said that in some cases, people had their phones taken away under threat of violence or harm. Some even managed to track where their phones were being used and reported it to the authorities. However, there was no response from the police.
**No Information on When Belongings Will Be Returned**
Detainees have no idea when or if they will get their belongings back. It’s not even clear what happened to some of the items that were taken from them. GYLA is calling for an investigation into these incidents and for those responsible to be held accountable.
