**GYLA Demands Suspension of Batumi Police Head**
The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) wants the head of the Batumi Police, Irakli Dgebuadze, to stop working immediately. This is because of a serious incident involving one of his colleagues.
**Founder of News Websites Beaten by Police**
Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of online news websites “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti,” was taken into custody recently. While she was in police detention, Irakli Dgebuadze verbally insulted her and even tried to physically harm her several times.
**Details of Incident**
According to Mzia Amaglobeli’s statement, she told investigators about the episodes of ill-treatment that happened at the police station yard and building. She said that after her detention, Irakli Dgebuadze insulted her and tried to hurt her multiple times. Other police officers had to intervene and remove him from the room.
**Assault on Mzia Amaglobeli**
Mzia Amaglobeli also reported that Irakli Dgebuadze spat in her face during one of his visits to her detention cell. Furthermore, she said that she was denied access to water and toilet facilities for a period of time while in custody.
**GYLA’s Call for Action**
The Chairperson of GYLA, Nona Kurdovanidze, visited Mzia Amaglobeli at Rustavi Prison #5 and attended her interrogation. She called on the Special Investigation Service to investigate this serious incident quickly and with proper qualifications. Nona Kurdovanidze also demanded that Irakli Dgebuadze’s service powers be suspended immediately.
