Georgian Dream‘s New Laws
The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) says the government is trying to limit people’s right to protest. The organization believes this is not just a normal change in laws, but an attempt to control freedom of assembly.
According to GYLA, the new laws are being passed quickly. This means that they can be approved within one week. However, GYLA says this is not just a small detail. It’s actually very important for how well democracy works.
In December 2024, similar changes were made to the law restricting freedom of assembly and expression. Now, the Georgian Dream government is making these same changes again, but in a hurry. This suggests that they want to pass these laws without much public discussion or input.
GYLA says this is not right. It’s essential for society to have time to think about and discuss new laws before they are approved. By passing them quickly, the government may be undermining the principles of democracy and rule of law.
