According to her representatives, Vice President Harris stressed the importance of a peaceful power transition during her first direct contact after the election with Trump.
Multiple US media outlets reported that Vice President Kamala Harris called Donald Trump to congratulate him for winning the presidential election in 2024.
NBC News, citing a senior Harris aide, reports that Harris called Trump to congratulate the president-elect on his victory in the 2024 presidential elections.
According to AP, NBC News and the aide, the conversation included a “discussion about the importance of a peaceful power transfer and being a President for all Americans.”
Reports indicate that the Vice President will deliver remarks to supporters at Howard University in Washington DC on 6th Movember.
Trump has said that if reelected, he would not commit to approving any additional US aid for Ukraine. His isolationist strategy is aimed at a “very rapid” resolution of the war, and to pressure Ukraine to cede Russian-occupied territory to the Kremlin.
During his presidential campaign, Trump criticised spending billions of dollars on Ukraine’s defence, saying that Kyiv would “not win the war.”
He claimed that he could end this war by speaking to the Ukrainian and Russian Presidents, while maintaining that Putin’s terms of peace negotiations were “unacceptable.”
Before the meeting with Zelenslyy, Trump called the Ukrainian President “the greatest salesman in the world” for securing US backing.
