The US takes its friendship with the Georgians seriously and the MEGOBARI Act has gained momentum in Congress – the Helsinki Commission reported on X.
The Helsinki Commission issued a statement saying that it welcomed new supporters of the MEGOBARI Act, including Friends of Georgia CoChairs Austin Scott, Gerry Connolly and Congressmen Don Bacon. Lloyd Doggett, Mike Lawler and Don Bacon are also members of Congress.
The MEGOBARI Act imposes sanctions on Georgian officials who undermine the democracy of Georgia and requires relevant U.S. government departments to report to Congress the improper influence, sanctions evasion and Russian intelligence assets present in Georgia.
