Ukrainian Festival Finds New Home in the UK
A festival from Ukraine has come to the city of Hereford in England. The International Arts Festival Ukraine was held in Ukraine for 20 years, but it had to move because of war. This year’s festival will be the first one outside of Ukraine.
The festival is a celebration of resilience and culture. Many talented refugees will perform at the event. Sandra Zhukova, an organiser who fled to Hereford with her daughter, said it was exciting to bring together all the performers. She wanted to show that even in hard times, Ukrainian culture can be preserved.
The festival will take place outside St Peter’s Church on Saturday and will feature singers, musicians, dancers, and poets. The event is free and open to everyone.
Sandra Zhukova fled from Crimea to Ukraine when Russia took over the peninsula in 2014. She moved to Hereford last year when Russians invaded Ukraine and started bombing the capital city. She loves living in Hereford now and says it’s a perfect place for this cultural event.
The festival is organized by the St Peter and St James Ukraine Project, which is funded by Herefordshire Council.
