**Facebook Limits News Access in Palestinian Territories**
Facebook has made it harder for news outlets in the Palestinian territories to reach their audience. This is according to research by the BBC.
**Study Finds Drop in Audience Engagement**
Our analysis of Facebook data shows that newsrooms in Gaza and the West Bank have seen a big drop in engagement since October 2023. This means that fewer people are reading or interacting with their content on the platform.
**Instagram Also Limits User Comments**
We’ve also seen leaked documents showing that Instagram, another social media platform owned by Meta (Facebook’s parent company), increased its moderation of Palestinian user comments after October 2023. This suggests that other parts of Facebook’s network may be limiting access to certain voices.
**Meta Denies Intentional Suppression**
When asked about these findings, Meta said that any claim they deliberately suppressed specific voices is “unequivocally false”.
