Josep Borrell, Vice-President of European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, spoke at the European Council on October 17 about the importance of the upcoming Georgian elections. The 17-18 October meeting of the Council in Brussels will also discuss the issue if democratic backsliding in Georgia.
“In Georgia, there is a clear backsliding in democratic principles. The next elections are the moment of truth, and the Georgians will have to decide whether they want to move towards Europe or away from Europe. This is a momentous occasion for us and for Georgians, especially because the future of their country is at stake,” said Borrell.
