Ukraine Needs Military Aid Before Trump Talks to Putin.
Experts say that President-elect Donald Trump needs to give Ukraine military aid before he talks to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This will make him a stronger negotiator.
The country of Ukraine is in trouble. Russia’s attacks on its energy infrastructure mean that many people will have long blackouts this winter. More than half of the country’s energy generation capacity has been damaged or destroyed. Ukrainians also need weapons to defend their towns and cities, including Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kursk Oblast.
Razom is a group of 200,000 Ukrainian activists in the US who are urging Congress to pass a new program for military aid to Ukraine. They want this aid package to be approved before President-elect Trump takes office.
Doug Klein, a political analyst with Razom, says that President Joe Biden will use up all the money allocated for Ukraine’s current military assistance program by the end of the year. When Biden leaves office, Trump will have to ask Congress for more funding, which could make him look weak in his negotiations with Putin.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has told HuffPost that the Republican majority is not interested in taking up a new aid package for Ukraine soon.
