Hundreds of University Staff Support Student Protests in Serbia
Almost 800 teachers, researchers, and associates from universities across Serbia have signed a letter supporting the students who have been protesting for weeks. The protests started after a roof collapsed at a train station in Novi Sad, killing and injuring several people.
The signatories condemned the authorities‘ attempts to intimidate the students. Over 500 staff members from the University of Novi Sad also signed the letter. They requested that the university’s rector resign due to the loss of autonomy by the institution.
Students have been demanding justice since November last year, when a canopy fell at the reconstructed train station in Novi Sad. Fifteen people died and many were injured in this incident.
