Hungary Deploys Air Defense Near Ukraine Border
Hungary‘s defense minister has ordered air defense systems to be deployed near the Ukrainian border. This is in response to Ukraine getting permission from Western countries to use long-range weapons against targets inside Russia.
Ukraine recently used Western-supplied missiles against Russian territory for the first time. Hungary’s Defense Minister, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, said that the war between Ukraine and Russia has become more dangerous. He also mentioned the recent developments in weapon deployment capabilities as a reason for the move.
Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, has called an emergency meeting to discuss potential risks of war escalation. The meeting will be held by the Defense Council. This comes after Ukraine was allowed to use long-range missiles against Russian targets.
Last weekend, several Russian missiles were shot down near the Hungarian border in the Carpathian Mountains. Hungary’s Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, said that it is necessary to “strengthen efforts to bring peace.”
