According to HUR, Dmitry Golenkov was the chief of staff for an aviation squadron. He died of head injuries that were likely “caused” by a hammer.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense (HUR) reported on 21st October that Dmitry Golenkov was found dead in Suponyovo, Bryansk Oblast in Russia. He had been implicated in airstrikes against civilian targets in Ukraine.
The HUR has been actively pursuing collaborators and quisling official in Russian-occupied regions, and reports occasionally the deaths of Russian officers on Russian soil. The intelligence organization does not confirm its involvement in assassination missions, but it always ends reports with “there will fair retribution” for each war crime. Another Ukrainian agency suspected to be involved in high-profile assassinations is the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the intelligence report Golenkov was found with multiple head wounds, most likely caused by a heavy hammer. The Russian officer was reportedly the chief of staff for an aviation squadron of the 52nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment (military Unit 33310) of the Russian Aerospace Forces, based on Shaykovka Airfield in Russia’s Kaluga Oblast and equipped with Tu-22M3 Strategic Bombers.
