**Ukraine‘s Nuclear Power Plants Cut Output After Russian Attack**
Russia launched a big air attack on Ukraine on November 17. The attack included around 120 missiles and 90 drones that hit energy infrastructure all over the country.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says this is affecting nuclear power plants in Ukraine. The IAEA’s Director General, Rafael Grossi, said that Ukraine’s nuclear power plants have reduced their electrical output.
**Some Plants Not Affected**
But not all of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants were affected. Khmelnytskyi, Rivne and South Ukraine were not directly hit by the attack. However, they still had problems because several substations they rely on were damaged during the shelling.
**Most Plants Still Running at Lower Capacity**
Six out of nine operating reactors in Ukraine are running at lower capacity. This means they are producing less electricity than usual. The main power lines from four substations were disconnected, making it harder for these plants to produce electricity.
The IAEA’s Director General reminded people that nuclear safety and security are a priority during the war. He said that all nuclear facilities should have secure connections to the grid both to transmit electricity and receive off-site power for cooling reactors.
