**Journalists Attacked in Serbia, Media Freedom Threatened**
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) have condemned attacks on journalists in Serbia. They are worried about media restrictions and journalists being fired.
Reporters like Milan Srdic were stopped from doing their job. Some even got death threats. A news portal, KRIK, was sued by a government official who is under investigation for a train accident. This shows that the government is not respecting journalists’ rights.
Two journalists from Novosti were fired because they supported student protesters. Another journalist, Tara Djukic, was told to stop working with her magazine after she showed support for students and their protests.
The IFJ and EFJ said: “We stand with our colleagues in Serbia who are reporting in a very difficult climate.” They asked the Serbian government to investigate all attacks on journalists.
**Protecting Press Freedom**
Media freedom is essential in a democracy. People have the right to know what’s going on. The IFJ and EFJ want strong laws to protect press freedom.
The IFJ also wants the new government to work with the Union of Journalists and Media Workers of Serbia (SINOS) to make sure all media workers are treated equally.
