Russia’s Attacks on Kyiv in 2024
Kyiv, Ukraine – Russia launched more than 1,300 drones and over 250 missiles against the city of Kyiv in 2024. This was announced by Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, on December 30.
The capital endured over 500 air raid alerts and nearly 200 airstrikes throughout the year. Among the missiles targeting Kyiv were cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and hypersonic missiles. These attacks caused significant damage to residential buildings and energy infrastructure.
Nearly 550 residential buildings in Kyiv were damaged by Russian attacks, leaving around 120 people homeless. Energy infrastructure was also heavily targeted, forcing Kyiv residents to endure approximately 100 days of power outages.
Despite the challenges, Popko ended his statement on a positive note, saying that almost 21,000 babies were born in Kyiv hospitals in 2024. He emphasized that there is something and someone to fight for.
