Early this morning, Ukrainian drones attacked Berdiansk Port, causing fires, visible smoke clouds, power failures, and casualties. As occupation authorities scrambled to assess the impacts, they were unable to stop themselves. The attack has led Russian officials to stop social services in the town.
Petro Andriushchenko confirmed on social media that Ukrainian drones attacked Berdiansk’s port on 31 October.
The Berdiansk Front is of strategic importance in the ongoing conflict involving Russia and Ukraine. It is a vital logistical hub for Russian military activities in southern Ukraine, Donetsk Oblast and Crimea. Berdiansk’s control, located along the Sea of Azov allows the movement of troops and supplies to sustain Russian forces in the area.
“Ukrainian drones have been attacking Berdiansk since six o’clock in the morning. The main strike was near the port. Visible is the thick smoke rising from a large fire. “There are many ambulances and firetrucks,” Andriushchenko wrote.
He also noted that the occupation authorities had not only acknowledged the strike for the very first time, but had also reported an assault on the administration building in the city.
Andriushchenko said that some areas are without electricity and that the work of municipal authorities has been suspended.
“Finally a good morning for the occupation,” he added emotional.
In an interview with Espreso earlier, Viktor Dudukalov, the Deputy Chairman of Berdiansk District Council, reported that at least six “hits”, had occurred in the city. He said that the situation in Berdiansk was very tense since 6:00 AM with Russian air defenses.
“There were at the least six hits, mainly near the port area.” Smoke, ambulances and certain streets leading to the port in the city centre are blocked off. The occupiers say that everything is under control and is fine, but they have declared a holiday and told everyone to stay at home because, “everything is indeed under control”, Dudukalov said.
The occupation authorities in Berdiansk reported a massive assault on the port “probably with kamikaze-drones.”
