New Rules for TV and Radio Broadcasters in Georgia
Parliament has approved changes to the Broadcasting Law. This law will make new rules for TV and radio stations.
The new rules were agreed upon and approved by a vote of 85-0. The rules were prepared by Georgian Dream, a party in Parliament.
The new rules cover several important issues:
* Reporting must be accurate
* People have the right to respond when they are mentioned on TV or radio
* Broadcasters must be fair and impartial
* Private lives of people cannot be invaded
* Broadcasters should not use hidden methods to get information
* TV and radio stations must report accurately during emergencies, such as accidents and armed conflicts
* The safety of children must be protected
These new rules will also apply to social media pages and online content.
If a broadcaster does not meet the requirements by June 1, 2025, they will not face penalties.
