**Parliament Approves Bill Banning Foreign Funding for Broadcasters**
The Georgian Parliament has approved a bill that prevents broadcasters from receiving money or support from outside the country. The decision was made after three readings of the bill.
**What Does the Law Say?**
The new law says that broadcasters must not accept funding or gifts from foreign powers in exchange for airing social ads or other programs. This means that if a broadcaster wants to show ads or programs about social issues, they cannot get money from outside the country.
**Other Rules**
The law also says that foreign powers are not allowed to buy broadcasting services (except for commercial ads and product placement). It means that broadcasters can only work with companies and individuals based in Georgia on non-commercial projects.
**Who is a Foreign Power?**
According to the new law, a “foreign power” includes:
* A part of a government from another country
* An individual who is not a citizen of Georgia
* A company or organization that was set up under a foreign law
**Important Date**
The bill also includes a provision that says sanctions will not be enforced until June 1, 2025. This means that broadcasters have some time to adjust to the new rules.
