In a night-time attack that spanned 12 oblasts in Ukraine, Ukrainian forces intercepted some of the 116 drones launched from Russia. Some targets were still airborne at dawn.
Ukraine’s air defence forces shot down 59 of 116 drones in a Russian night attack.
The targets were dropped over Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts, as well as Kherson, Vinnytsia oblast, Khmelnytskyi oblast, Zhytomyr oblast, Kyiv oblast, Sumy oblast, Kirovohrad oblast, Cherkasy oblast, Chernihiv oblast, and Poltava oblast.
As of 10 am, 45 drones had been lost and 10 were still in the sky. The Russian army also launched three missiles against Ukraine.
Russia continues to deliberately attack residential areas daily in an attempt to terrorize civilians, and damage infrastructure. While the Russian leadership denies that they are targeting civilians, Ukrainian authorities as well as international organizations classify this strikes by the Russian Federation as war crimes, emphasizing its deliberate nature.
According to reports by the Kyiv Military Administration (KCMA), as part of its massive and coordinated attack on Ukraine, Russian forces launched a drone strike on Kyiv at the dawn of the 21st October, resulting one injury and damage caused to residential buildings.
At midnight, an alert for an air raid was issued in Kyiv. This was followed by “at the least three series” of explosions throughout the night.
The KCMA reported debris from drones that had crashed in the Dniprovsky District of Kyiv. According to reports, there were no injuries or destruction.
In the Holosiivsky District, drone debris was also found. The KCMA reported “a multi-apartment building with windows and walls broken out but without fire and destruction”
Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, said that in Solomyansky, “the roof a private residential house caught fire due falling debris.” The blaze was contained and one person injured received medical attention.
The debris that fell on a 5-story building in Hlevakha, Kyiv Oblast, caused damage. The State Emergency Service evacuated the 43 residents from the building. No one was injured or killed.
Rescuers also removed the effects of a missile strike on the port infrastructure at Odesa. There was a fire that broke out at night. According to Governor Oleh Kiper, no one was injured or killed.
Ivan Fedorov, the Governor of Zaporizhzhia said that Russian forces also injured a person in Zaporizhzhia.
Suspilne Sumy has reported that a Russian attack on an energy facility in Romny District damaged it. All household consumers are currently connected to electricity.
Local officials report that Russian forces launched a rocket attack on Kryvyi RIH late on the 20th of October, causing four injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure.
Oleksandr Vilkul is the head of the city’s Defense Council. He said that Russian forces fired the missile into a densely-populated area with many multi-story buildings.
In the morning of the 21st of October, Governor Serhiylysak announced that the number of injuries had risen to four. This included a 12-year old girl. Other victims include a woman aged 63 and a woman aged 36.
According to officials, the attack damaged a number of buildings including a hotel, five apartments, a cultural center, a bank and two shops.
On the evening of October 20, Russia also struck Osnovyansky & Kyiv districts of Kharkiv, injuring thirteen people.
According to Dmytro Chubik, spokesperson of the regional prosecutor’s office, Russia has attacked Kharkiv using four aviation munitions.
Russian troops launched Grom-E1 at an altitude of 12000 meters. Then, it was about 100 km to the impact site from the launch site. Chubenko told Suspilne debris also indicates that Grom-E1 was used, “but time is required to establish this.”
Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv, said that 12 private homes were damaged in Kyiv’s district. One person was injured. In the Osnovyansky District, a building that was not occupied was struck, but multi-story buildings nearby suffered damage and had broken windows.
The attack caused the loss of electricity in certain parts of the city. Oleh Syniehubov said that energy workers were working to restore the power supply.
The Kharkiv front remains a crucial front in the ongoing conflict due to its strategic position bordering Russia and as a possible launch point for further offensives.
According to Syniehubov, the Russian military has attacked Kharkiv four times in the past 24 hours, injuring a total of 14 people.
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a massive Russian strike involving over 200 missiles and drones that caused significant damage to critical infrastructure as well as civilian casualties.
