**Former Prison Colony Head Allegedly Killed in Car Bombing**
Serhii Yevsyukov, the former head of a prison colony in Ukraine, has been killed in a car explosion. His wife was also injured in the blast.
The explosion occurred on December 9th in a parking lot. According to reports, Yevsyukov got into his car and an explosion happened soon after. His wife’s leg was severely injured and she is currently in serious condition in hospital.
Yevsyukov was accused by Ukrainian authorities of being involved in the deaths of 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war who were held at the Olenivka prison colony. In July 2022, an explosion occurred there, killing many prisoners and injuring over 150.
**Background to the Case**
In July, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced that Yevsyukov was suspected of involvement in the deaths of Ukrainian prisoners of war at Olenivka. The SBU alleged that he deliberately delayed evacuating wounded prisoners, leading to multiple fatalities.
Yevsyukov and another official, Dmytro Neilov, were reportedly replaced in their positions in November 2022 and were believed to be hiding in occupied Donetsk Oblast.
The Ukrainian General Staff denied Russian accusations of Ukrainian Armed Forces involvement in the explosion. Instead, they suggested that Russia was trying to cover up torture and killings of prisoners.
**Details of the Car Bombing**
Russian media reported that a planted explosive device equivalent to 100 grams of TNT caused the car bombing. Two people were injured in the blast, with Yevsyukov’s wife being one of them.
