A Russian delegation met with Syria’s de facto leader Ahmad al-Sharaa to discuss compensation and reconstruction. The talks were described as “constructive” by Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

Russia is currently suffering heavy casualties on the battlefield, losing around 1500-1750 soldiers daily. Ukraine has also been engaging with Syria’s new leadership, sharing similar views on Russia’s military presence in the country.
