**Russia Attacks Ukraine, Killing One and Injuring 16**
Russian attacks against Ukraine killed one person and injured at least 16 others over the past day. The regional authorities made this announcement on January 17.
**Ukraine’s Air Force Shoots Down Russian Drones**
Ukrainian forces were able to shoot down 33 out of the 50 drones launched by Russia overnight. Another nine drones were lost, and one flew in the direction of Romania. A 12-year-old boy was injured when a drone crashed in Kyiv Oblast.
**Port Infrastructure Targeted**
Russian drones also targeted port infrastructure near the town of Izmail in Odesa Oblast. The residential building was damaged, but no casualties were reported.
**Injuries and Damage Reported Across Ukraine**
There were reports of injuries and damage in several regions across Ukraine. In Kharkiv, three men were injured when a drone hit the roadway. Five cars were also damaged. In Sumy Oblast, three people suffered injuries from a Russian first-person-view (FPV) drone attack.
**NATO Takes Over Aid Coordination**
NATO has taken over some responsibilities in coordinating aid for Ukraine from the U.S. with Washington’s consent. This is to ensure a stable support mechanism going forward.
**Germany Criticized for Hesitancy**
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock criticized her own government for hesitancy in supporting Ukraine, saying Germany is not currently seen as a “driving force for peace policy in Europe.”
**Ukraine Reports Russian Casualties**
Russia suffered at least 1,670 casualties just over the past day.
