Russian Attacks on Ukraine Continue to Rise in Violence
Over the past day, Russian attacks across Ukraine have killed at least two civilians and injured at least 13. The regional authorities reported this information on January 8.
Russia launched a large number of drones against Ukraine overnight. According to the Air Force, 64 Shahed-type attack drones and various dummy drones were sent towards Ukraine. However, Ukrainian air defenses shot down 41 drones over nine different regions. Twenty-two dummy drones were lost in the airspace, with three flying back to Russia and one to Belarus.
In Donetsk Oblast, a town near the front line called Pokrovsk was attacked by Russian forces. Three civilians were injured during this attack, according to Governor Vadym Filashkin.
In Kherson Oblast, two people were killed and nine injured in Russian attacks. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported that three high-rise buildings, five houses, a bus, a garage, and other civilian property were damaged.
One person was injured and one house was damaged during a Russian drone attack on the Shostka community in Sumy Oblast, according to the regional military administration.
Russia’s Attacks on Ukraine Have Consequences
This number includes 1,660 casualties that Russian forces suffered just over the past day. President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bill on January 7 strengthening the process for adding groups and organizations to Ukraine’s terror list.
A large fire engulfed an oil depot overnight in the city of Engels in Saratov Oblast, according to various Russian Telegram media channels.
Upcoming Aid Package to Ukraine
The upcoming aid package, scheduled to be announced on January 9, will draw from existing stockpiles. Defense officials speaking to the Associated Press said most of the pledged weapons will be delivered to Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
