**Ukraine Ready to Negotiate Peace Deal with Russia**
The Ukrainian government is willing to negotiate a peace deal with Russia, but only if certain conditions are met. The UK news outlet the Independent reported on March 16 that Ukraine’s leaders are firm on several key areas.
**Ceasefire Proposal**
Kiev has agreed to accept a US-proposed 30-day ceasefire, provided Russia also abides by its terms. US officials are currently negotiating with Moscow on the details of the proposal.
**Ukraine’s Conditions for Peace**
Ukraine has four key conditions that must be met in order for the war to end:
1. No further territory ceded to Russia
2. The return of thousands of Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia
3. The return of thousands of civilians illegally detained by Russia
4. International security guarantees in case Moscow breaks a ceasefire
**No Territory Giveaways**
Kiev is prepared to accept a freeze along the current battle lines, but will not surrender any more territory to Russia despite Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s goal of fully occupying Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts.
**Compromises Required**
The White House has insisted that both Russia and Ukraine must make compromises to end the war. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that talks in Saudi Arabia on March 11 included discussions about potential territorial concessions as part of a negotiated settlement with Russia.
