The Ukrainian military intelligence agency announced on October 7 that the Russian minesweeper Alexander Obukhov had been rendered inoperable by a sabotage campaign.
The ship, which is based in the Russian coastal city of Baltiysk, in the Exclave, “suffered serious damage” when water leaked into its engine due to the “mysterious appearance of a gap in a gas-duct.”
This is the second time that Ukraine has sabotaged a Russian warship. The exclave lies between Poland (250 miles) and Lithuania, about 400 kilometers from Ukraine’s northwest border.
The agency stated that the M-503 engine, which was damaged, is a rare item of equipment. According to HUR, efforts to repair the vessel will be “technically challenging and expensive.”
The agency published an unidentified video, which showed and described the aftermath of sabotage. The date was given as 30 September.
HUR did no specify how they gained access to the vessel in order to carry out sabotage.
On April 8, the Russian missile vessel Serpukhov caught fire as it docked near the Kaliningrad exclave.
Ukraine revealed later that a member of the Russian Armed Forces who was active at the time assisted in the sabotage.
Ukraine’s forces were also able to disable about one-third of ‘s Black Sea Fleet through drone and missile attacks. This undermined Russia’s naval dominance on the sea.
Around 10:40 am, Russia attacked the city. Two KAB bombs were dropped in the coastal region of the central district of Kherson and two others in the northern part.
