Georgia’s Prime Minister Speaks Out Against Protests
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, met with journalists to discuss the ongoing protests in the country. He said that around 1,000 people gather every day to protest, which he believes is a sign of activity from political parties and non–governmental organizations (NGOs).
Kobakhidze emphasized that these groups have the right to express their opinions, but noted that their views are outnumbered by those who voted for the current government. He pointed out that over 1,120,000 people chose the “Georgian Dream” party to govern the country for the next four years.
The Prime Minister’s comments suggest that he believes the protests will not have a significant impact on the country’s politics, at least in the short term.
