According to Irakli Kobakhidze the Prime Minister of Georgia he is confident that the meeting between party chairman of the “Georgian Dream Party” and the American Ambassador will be very productive for restarting the relations with the USA.
As the Prime Minister noted, the meeting between Bidzina and Robin Dunnigan is likely to take place very shortly after the elections.
“You know it is important for us to resume relations with the United States of America as well as the European Union. We are all delighted that a meeting between Mr. Bidzina and the American ambassador has already been agreed upon. This will take place shortly after the elections. This meeting will certainly help to reset relations. We are doing and will continue to do everything we can for this, but the most important thing is that we know the next steps. I will repeat that I am confident that this meeting will be highly productive in terms of re-establishing relations,” said Kobakhidze.
The Prime Minister also explains that Bidzina was not willing to meet with foreigners because of blackmail, but that now that certain circumstances are different, he’s ready to meet the ambassador of the United States of America.
“In reality, Mr. Bidzina was being blackmailed. His funds were frozen as soon as the Ukraine war began, and transfers to his account were stopped. In this context, he didn’t want to hold meetings for a completely objective reason. This process lasted for two years, and Bidzina did not attend Ivanishvili’s meetings. He refused to meet with foreigners in order to blackmail them. He is now ready to meet with foreigners after certain circumstances have changed. The American ambassador also expressed a willingness to meet, which is a very positive sign. This meeting will contribute significantly to restarting the relations between Georgia and United States of America,” Kobakhidze stated.
