In 2012, there were less than 800 hotel rooms in our country. This year, the number is already around 2400. The number of hotel rooms has increased from 23000 to 108,000. This was announced by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at “Bodbe Hotel” opening event in Sighnaghi.
According to the Prime minister, the number hotels has tripled over the past 12 years and the number hotel rooms has increased by 4.5 times.
“It’s important that our economy develops at a rapid pace. In this respect, we are ahead of the game, not just in the region but also in Europe. We are in a better position than all European countries when it comes to economic growth. It is important that we maintain this pace. In this context, the development and growth of tourism are of great importance. Tourism is a major part of our economy and we should continue to pay attention to its development. Along with the importance of a good economic policy and an economic environment, it is also important to emphasize the importance of stability and peace, as without these, a country’s economy cannot develop. In order to maintain a stable and peaceful environment in our country, it is also important to maintain an appropriate economic and business environment. I would like you to remember some statistics that show the growth of tourism in our country: in 2012 there were less than 800 hotel rooms in our country, and this year we have about 2400. The number of hotel rooms increased from 23,000 up to 108,000. The number of hotels tripled in just 12 years and the number hotel places increased 4.5-fold. We have a specific plan for 2028. There are ongoing projects. By this time, the number of hotel rooms will reach 140,000 and the number will rise to 2,700.
According to the head the government, Kakheti is a region with a unique tourist potential. The opening of the “Bodbe Hotel” will contribute to this development.
“Hospitality is not just a branch of our economy, it’s a part of who we are. In this respect, the development of this sector and tourism is also important to us.” By 2028, the number of tourists is expected to reach 11 million. Tourism revenues will reach 6.5 billion dollars. This is a situation that requires additional support and we will continue to provide it.
The project will contribute to developing this special tourism potential in Kakheti. We will do a lot to develop tourism in Kakheti. In this respect, the infrastructure projects being implemented are very important. A four-lane highway linking Tbilisi to Sagarejo was already opened. The section up to Badiauri is scheduled to be opened next year. Construction of the highway to Chalaubi, however, will not be completed until later. It will then take approximately one hour to drive to this hotel from Tbilisi. Such projects will help to develop tourism in Kakheti. I am confident that this hotel will be a favorite for guests, whether they are there for leisure or business, and I wish success to everyone involved in its implementation,” said the prime minister.
