**Georgian Prime Minister Defends Police Response to 2019 Rally**
The Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, has spoken out about the police response to an anti-occupation rally in 2019. He was commenting on a complaint filed by citizens affected during the event with the European Court of Human Rights.
According to Mr. Kobakhidze, it is not clear why water cannons and gas were not used when dealing with protesters who had carried out an “anti-state assault” on the parliament building. He said this was a question that needed investigating and that all consequences should be examined.
The Prime Minister also questioned the actions of the then-Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Gakharia, saying it was interesting to understand why he acted in the way he did during the rally.
**Oral Hearing Scheduled**
On February 26, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights will hold an oral hearing on the complaints filed by citizens affected during the anti-occupation rally. This event took place on June 20-21, 2019.
