We celebrate today the start of construction of Anaklia Deep-Water Port, a project that is of strategic importance to our country. – Said the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech on the launch of design and construction of water infrastructure for the Anaklia Deep-Water Port.
According to him, approximately 500 people will be employed in the first phase of this project, directly during construction, on construction and logistics works.
According to his information the first phase will have a capacity of 600 thousand containers per annum and the indicative cost of investment is 600 million dollars.
The plan states that the Belgian company Jan De Nul has already begun work on the 16th of September. The first stage is to deepen the water area’s seabed. We have made significant progress as a result.
It is essential that a company of high international reputation and experience be involved in the building of such a strategic national project. “Jan De Nul” specializes in marine construction works. The company has completed or partially completed projects such as the Panama Canal Expansion Project, the New Suez Canal in Egypt and the New Seaport in Nador, Morocco, the Hamburg Port Deepening Project, and the Dubai Artificial Island and Beach. This list speaks volumes about the experience of the company. We are pleased that they have been involved in the development Anaklia deep-water port. During the first phase, 500 people will be employed in construction and logistics. The first phase of the port is expected to have a capacity of 600 thousand containers per annum. The indicative investment is 600 million dollars. The details of the submitted proposals are being clarified at this stage with the Chinese-Singaporean group, and then the partnership agreement as well as the concession agreement will soon be signed,” said Kobakhidze.
