Georgia’s Prime Minister Speaks Out on PACE Decision
The government of Georgia has decided to suspend its work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The decision was announced by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
According to Kobakhidze, not being part of PACE’s activities will have little impact. He believes that PACE is becoming less important over time and is no longer as strong as the European Parliament.
“The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has been losing its relevance year after year,” said Kobakhidze. “It’s not a special loss for us to not be part of their activities.”
Despite this decision, Georgia remains a member of the Council of Europe. The country is still willing to cooperate with them in various ways.
“We will continue to work with the Council of Europe in other areas,” said Kobakhidze. “We have promised this to the Secretary General and we intend to keep our word.”
