**PM Kobakhidze Speaks on Speculation and Media Regulation**
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, recently made statements about speculation and media regulation in the country. He said that there are certain events where speculation is not acceptable, such as natural disasters.
Kobakhidze emphasized that during times like these, it’s essential for everyone to stand united. However, he also mentioned that some forces are trying to use this situation for their own gain through speculation. This is one of the reasons why stricter regulation of certain issues, including media-related ones, is necessary.
**New Law on Broadcasting**
The Prime Minister also spoke about planned amendments to the “Law on Broadcasting.” He said that the new law will establish clear objectivity standards and ensure they are enforced. These standards already exist, but without institutional mechanisms in place, they haven’t been effective. The new law aims to change this.
**Importance of FARA Law**
Additionally, Kobakhidze discussed the initiation of the American FARA law’s translated version in Parliament. He emphasized that its adoption is crucial. The current US administration has acknowledged that certain foreign-funded mechanisms have been used to destabilize countries, including Georgia. Therefore, ensuring transparency of NGOs has no alternative.
The proposed amendments to the Law on Broadcasting aim to prohibit broadcasters from receiving funding directly or indirectly from foreign entities. It also seeks to forbid foreign entities from purchasing services from broadcasters or directly or indirectly funding program preparation and transmission.
**FARA Law Bill**
A verbatim translation of the FARA law, also known as the Foreign Agents Registration Act, has been introduced in Parliament on February 24. The bill includes key terms such as “President of the United States,” “Congress,” “State Department,” and “Secretary of the Treasury.”
