The situation that we saw in the second round presidential elections of 2018 is almost being repeated, said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at a press briefing. He is the head of the “Georgian Dream” election staff.
As the head government noted, elections are to be held in over 3100 districts of the 3111 districts.
“I will reiterate that today’s elections are decisive, equivalent to a referendum. This is well understood by the people of Georgia and it is therefore logical that there is a high turnout today. This is a near-repeat of the second round presidential elections held in 2018. I thank each voter for their civic responsibility. Each voter’s vote will be important to the victory of “Georgian Dream”. Only 2 hours remain until this victory.
You can see from the overall election environment that it will be peaceful. There are 3111 polling stations in Georgia, as well as abroad. Out of these 3111 polling stations, more than 3100 will hold peaceful elections. The situation was confusing in several districts where journalists from specific TV stations and groups would sometimes be found together. In the last hour the situation has also stabilized. There are no longer any such attempts in precincts. We hope that the voting process will continue this way for the remaining two hours.
I will reiterate that the elections will take place in a peaceful atmosphere in more than 3100 of 3111 precincts. The elections were conducted in a peaceful environment, regardless of whether a certain journalist or a specific group was present.
We have higher expectations. As the data shows, we are already assured of a convincing win by a wide margin. We want a constitutional majority which is not guaranteed yet. There are 2 hours left and there are likely to be more than 200,000 voters who will come. Therefore, it is important to mobilize every voter, a man wearing a hat so that we can not only win these elections with a convincing margin, but also gain a solid majorit in the Georgian Parliament. But also to achieve the constitutional majority. This is our political goal.
We urge our voters to vote as much as they can and to do so with the utmost responsibility. I’ll also say that this election is decisive, as war and peace are on opposite sides of the scale. Immoral propaganda and traditional value are on the one side, while the dark past and bright future of the country are on the other. The responsibility is huge. I will again urge every voter to show up and mobilize as much energy as possible at the polling station.
