Irakli Kokohidze, Prime Minister of Georgia said that the government had taken into consideration the request of the American and European partners for an investigation of the parliamentary election, but President Salome Zurabishvili didn’t come to the prosecutor’s office, and “everyone must draw their own conclusions”.
Kobakhidze has responded to Charles Michel’s statement that there is doubt about the fraud of the Georgian elections, and therefore, an investigation is needed. Kobakhidze stated that he spoke to Charles Michel and gave him information.
“I spoke with Charles Michel and told him about everything. I also explained to him that there were a number subjects who wanted an investigation. I reminded Boreli, and also the State Department’s statement where they spoke about the national inquiry – the inquiry to be conducted by Georgian constitutional bodies. I told him [Michel] the CEC had applied to the Prosecutor’s Office. The next day the prosecutor’s started an investigation into the elections. Salome Zurabishvili then was summoned for questioning by the prosecutor’s offices. Zurabishvili was asked by the State Department to cooperate with the prosecutor’s office. Zurabishvili refused. We listened to the calls we heard both from the United States of America as well as the European Union. Salome Zurabishvili who is a figure in the opposition does not take into consideration the call from the American and European partners. Everyone should draw their conclusions. Irakli Kobakhidze said, “I explained this to Charles Michel. He listened and will probably draw conclusions”.
Charles Michel, the President of the European Council (CE), told journalists, in response to a journalist’s question about the elections in Georgia, before the informal gathering of leaders of EU member states held in Budapest, that there were serious doubts as to whether the elections in Georgia had been rigged, and that an investigation was needed. According to him there is a need for clarity regarding this process.
