The press conference held by the international missions made clear that there were no doubts or questions regarding the legitimacy of these elections. On the contrary, they emphasized that this was a competitive, competitive election. The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced this at the press conference by international observation missions.
According to him the government‘s only desire was to hold free, competitive and democratic elections. This is why it invited international observers to Georgia in February.
“We listened to the press conference that was held with participation from the heads of the observation missions. This press conference made clear that there were no doubts about the legitimacy of the elections. On the contrary, it was stressed that it was an election that was competitive. Overall, of course, this assessment reflects what is said – that the election was competitive and in compliance with all electoral principles. The statements made were logical. It should also be noted that the speakers used specific words when evaluating the elections and processes. They were referring to the elected government. I am quoting from the government elected yesterday. This directly means, ofcourse, that the elections are recognized as being completely legitimate. This is of course very important.
I would like thank everyone who participated in the International Monitoring Mission. You know that since February, we have been inviting international observers to Georgia. We were open to international observers because we wanted to hold free, competitive and democratic elections.
