**Georgian Government Aims to “Neutralize” Opposition**
On December 6, the head of Georgia’s parliament, Irakli Kobakhidze, made a statement about the government’s intentions. He said that they want to “completely neutralize” the radical opposition and get rid of what he calls “liberal fascism” in the country.
Kobakhidze claimed that by stopping violence in the streets, they were able to prevent police reaction. He also said that the opposition is trying to undermine Georgia’s constitutional order by demanding new elections and the release of detained protesters.
**Opposition’s Demands Rejected**
The government does not agree with these demands. Kobakhidze said that the opposition’s actions are against the principles of democracy and the rule of law. He also stated that the detention of 300 people is justified, as they were involved in a direct attack on the constitutional order.
**Government Sees Victory Over Opposition**
Kobakhidze believes that the OSCE/ODIHR assessment has already shown the opposition’s defeat. He said that recognizing the legitimacy of the elections has “shattered the plans” of the opposition and their supporters.
**President Criticized**
The head of parliament also criticized President Salome Zurabishvili, saying she had been “stripped of dignity”. Kobakhidze alleged that the president was involved in a disinformation campaign against Georgia’s national interests.
**Government Offers Dialogue**
In an attempt to calm down the situation, Kobakhidze offered to engage in public discussion with young people. He said he is ready to sit down and talk about various issues, including European integration.
