**Ireland Deports 32 Georgians**
Ireland has deported 32 Georgian nationals who had been given deportation orders. They were flown out on a special plane overnight on February 27.
The deportations are part of the Irish government’s efforts to strengthen immigration enforcement. Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said it was “a significant start” towards a better system for handling immigration.
This is the first time Ireland has used a chartered flight for deportations, under an agreement signed in November. More operations like this are expected to take place.
The Department of Justice says that deportation is only done as a last resort, when people don‘t leave the country voluntarily or take advantage of programs to help them return home.
**More People Leaving Ireland**
Official figures show that more people left Ireland in 2024 than in previous years. Voluntary returns increased to 934, up from 213 the year before. However, there was also a sharp increase in removal orders, with 2,403 issued in 2024 – an 180% rise on 2023.
In total, 1,116 people left Ireland last year through various means, including voluntary return and enforced removal.
