The International School of Economics (ISET) at TSU reported the Khachapuri Index in September 2024. It noted that the price for preparing a standard Imeretian Khachapuri had reached 6.48 GEL. This is a 13% increase compared to data from July 2024. The main reason for the change was a 22% rise in cheese prices from July to September.
Other price increases include
Yeast +21.7%
Milk +17.6%
Butter +12.1%
The report also shows that khachapuri, at 7.04 GEL is the most expensive food in Tbilisi. This is 8.5% more than the national average. Batumi is the cheapest, at 6.18 GEL. The report attributes this gap to seasonal variations, tourism behavior and lower demand for famous Georgian cuisine like khachapuri, in seaside towns like Batumi.
