Disputes Over Mass Firings at Public Registry
43 workers were let go from the National Agency of Public Registry. An organization called ISFED says this was unfair and not justified. They are fighting for these workers in court.
ISFED thinks the reason for these firings is political. The Public Registry has been understaffed, with job openings on a government website. Some workers were let go even though they had permanent contracts.
The Public Registry told employees that a project would be delayed until 2025. They also announced new jobs in October. This makes it hard to understand why the firings happened.
Some of the dismissed workers think their layoffs are connected to a petition against the government’s decision to stop trying to join the EU. The petition had over 350 signatures and was signed by workers at the Public Registry.
ISFED has filed a lawsuit on behalf of these 43 people. They think the government is using new laws to make it easier to fire civil servants unfairly.
