A spokesman from the Hamas-run Health Ministry said that only one doctor remained at Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital after a days-long Israeli attack.
In a video, Dr Khalil DAQRAN urged international organizations to send medical personnel to the hospital located in the north of Gaza Strip, stating that patients were bleeding to death due to a lack of proper care.
Israel announced on Monday that its forces had detained around 100 “terrorists”, before withdrawing from the hospital.
Local health officials have denied the claims made by Israel Defense Forces that Hamas had used the hospital in Jabalia Refugee Camp.
Mr Daqran said, “Two Days Ago, the Army Stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital and caused widespread destruction. They set large parts of the hospital on fire, destroyed the entrances to the hospital, and demolished surrounding walls.
“Patients, medical staff, and many of their companions were assaulted. Many patients and their companions, as well as the majority of medical staff, were arrested.”
The fate of 30 medical staff remains unknown.
“The army has taken the hospital out of service and destroyed all its contents.” The hospital is now devoid of any medical supplies, food or medicines.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that it had carried out a “precise” operation against a Hamas terrorist base in the hospital.
The IDF stated that it had taken measures to minimise civilian deaths and facilitate the evacuation of the Hospital. The IDF said that during the raid, weapons, cash and Hamas documents were found.
IDF: Some Hamas militants, some of whom were linked to the 7 October attacks last year, disguised themselves in medical staff.
Health officials reported that the Israeli raid on the hospital resulted in the death of patients and injuries to medics.
The Israeli army released a video purporting show the interrogation a ambulance driver who worked at Kamal Adwan Hospital.
The face of the alleged driver is blurred in the video. The BBC could not verify its authenticity. The man claims that Hamas militants were operating in the hospital.
Hamas militants were transported to their missions by ambulances, he says. “Hamas is stationed at the schools, in the hospitals.”
The northern Gaza Strip faces a growing humanitarian crisis. Hundreds of thousands of civilians live in increasingly desperate circumstances.
Mr Daqran said, “Conditions are terrible in northern Gaza: there’s no food, water or baby formula.” Infrastructure has been decimated. Sewage and waste are piling among residents, leading to epidemics and disease.
Volker Turk, the UN Human Rights chief, said on Friday that Israel’s military was subjecting a whole population to bombings, sieges and the risk of starvation.
“The Israeli government‘s policies and practices in the northern Gaza area risk emptying out the entire Palestinian population.” “We are facing atrocity crimes that could extend to crimes against humanity,” said Mr Turk.
He also said that it was unacceptable for Palestinian armed groups to be operating among civilians and even inside shelters for displaced people, putting them at risk.
Many Palestinians think that the Israeli military is implementing the so-called “Generals’ Plan” in the north. This plan would see the forced relocation of all the estimated 400,000 civilians to the south, followed by a siege on any remaining Hamas militants.
The Israeli military denied that it had such a plan, and said that they were ensuring civilians are kept out of harm’s path.
Israel launched a campaign against Hamas as a response to the group’s unprecedented attack in southern Israel on 7th October 2023. In that attack, approximately 1,200 people died and 251 were taken hostage.
According to the health ministry of Gaza, more than 42,000 people were killed in Gaza between then and now.
