In the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinians who were displaced by Israeli bombardment are now living near the border with Egypt in Rafah. This area is located along the Philadelphi corridor in southern Gaza. On January 14, 2024, AP photographer Fatima Shbair captured a photo of these displaced Palestinians playing in the area.
In another photo taken on July 1, 2007, AP photographer Khalil Hamra captured a Palestinian flag against the backdrop of a section of the wall in the Philadelphi corridor between Egypt and Gaza. This photo was taken near the town of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
However, Israel’s demand for lasting control over these two strategic corridors in Gaza, which Hamas has consistently rejected, is now posing a threat to cease-fire talks. These talks aim to end the 10-month-long war, secure the release of numerous hostages, and prevent a wider conflict from erupting.
