**Israel Told to Prepare for Palestinians Leaving Gaza**
Israel’s defence minister has told the military to prepare a plan that would allow Palestinians in Gaza to leave if they want to. This move is in line with US President Donald Trump‘s proposal for the US to take over the territory and resettle its 2.1 million Palestinians.
According to Israeli Minister David Katz, people from Gaza should have the freedom to move around or migrate to other countries. He also said that these countries were “obligated” to take them in. However, Palestinian leaders and Arab states have rejected this plan, saying it would be a form of forced displacement that violates international law.
**International Reaction**
The US Secretary of State has clarified that any resettlement would only be temporary during Gaza’s reconstruction. However, this contradicts President Trump’s earlier statement that the move would be permanent. The UN Secretary General has also warned against “any form of ethnic cleansing” and stressed that Gaza would remain an integral part of a future Palestinian state.
**Background**
The Israeli military launched an operation to destroy Hamas in response to a cross-border attack on October 7, 2023. Since then, over 47,550 people have been killed, and 111,600 injured in Gaza. The territory’s healthcare, water, sanitation, and hygiene systems have collapsed due to shortages of food, fuel, medicine, and shelter.
