Medical personnel have reported that more than 60 people were injured in a drone attack on the Binyamina area of northern Israel.
United Hatzalah, a volunteer emergency response organization, said in a statement that the conditions of the injured ranged from mild to critical. The organisation said that all the injured had been transported to five regional hospitals by helicopter or ambulance.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack. It said that the Golani Brigade of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) was targeted in the area between Tel Aviv & Haifa.
The media office of the armed group said that the strike was a response to Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon and Beirut, which took place on Thursday.
The group claimed to have targeted the camp in northern Israel with a “swarm” of drones.
Israeli censorship laws prevent media outlets from revealing the exact location or what was targeted. However, some media outlets claim that a low-level weapon launched from Lebanon was responsible for the attack – an unrefined weapon which did not trigger early warning alarms.
Israeli media reported that at least 67 individuals were injured, with four of them in critical condition and another five seriously wounded.
Many of the injured have been evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Medical Centre, in nearby Hadera, while others were taken to hospitals in Tel Hashomer and Haifa.
Details are scarce, but it appears that many of the injured were in a canteen when the incident occurred and were completely caught by surprise. Social media images appear to show a mess hall with a hole on the roof.
