Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, has fired Yoav Galant as defence minister. He said there was a “crisis in trust” between the two.
In a recent statement, Netanyahu said that his confidence in Gallant has “eroded”.
Netanyahu said that Foreign Minister Israel Katz would replace Gallant.
Gallant wrote on social media, “Security of the State of Israel is and will always be the mission of my Life”.
In a press release, Netanyahu said that “in the middle of a conflict, full trust between the prime minister, and the minister of defense, is more important than ever.”
“Unfortunately, despite the fact that in the first months of this campaign there was a great deal of trust and a very fruitful effort, during the last few months, this trust has cracked between me, and the Minister of Defense.”
Netanyahu said that “significant gaps between me and Gallant were discovered in the management of the election campaign“.
“These gaps were accompanied with statements and actions that contradicted the decisions of both the government and cabinet,” he continued.
Netanyahu said that he “made numerous attempts to bridge these gap, but they continued to get wider”.
Gallant posted a brief message on X stating that “the security of Israel was and will always be the mission of my lifetime”.
Netanyahu announced that Katz will succeed Gallant in the role of defence minister and Gideon Sa’ar as foreign minister.
