Amir Weitmann is the chairman of the Likud Party’s liberals. He suggests that if Ukraine ever needed nuclear deterrence there are creative solutions beyond domestic development.
The Budapest Memorandum required Ukraine to give up its nuclear weapons by 1994 in exchange for security assurances from Russia, the UK and the US. However, Russia’s full scale invasion has sparked debates on nuclear deterrence.
Weitmann, in an exclusive interview with Euromaidan Press, said: “Think creatively instead of nuclear proliferation – grab them using launchers from Belarus. That’s where Russians have deployed them.”
Weitmann says that Putin is unlikely to use a nuclear weapon himself, knowing the superior nuclear capabilities of America, France and Britain, as well as their delivery systems, which are aimed at Moscow and St. Petersburg.
“Putin has to understand that using nuclear weapons is death for him personally, his family, his friends, and the entire regime,” he stated. Weitmann suggested that Putin regime figures be listed in an online database.
Weitmann said that Ukraine and Israel share the same enemy – a coalition consisting of Russia, China and North Korea with their proxies. “Russia must be punished.” Putin’s regime has to learn that aggression can have consequences, he said.
Weitmann, who told RT previously that Russia would “pay” for all its actions, advocates for a stronger stance.
