**Record Russian Losses in Ukraine**
Russian forces suffered record losses in November 2024. According to UK reports, there were 45,690 casualties and an average of 1,523 personnel lost per day.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russian forces captured around 839 square kilometers in Ukraine and Russia’s Kursk Oblast during November 2024. However, this territorial gain came at a high cost.
**Frontal Attacks Cause Heavy Losses**
Russia is using “meat assault” tactics, which involve frontal attacks on Ukrainian positions. These tactics have resulted in heavy losses for the Russian forces. Despite these losses, Russia continues to try and capture Ukrainian-controlled areas in Donetsk Oblast and reclaim its lost territory in Kursk Oblast.
**Casualties Reach Record High**
The British Defense Ministry (MoD) reported that Russian daily casualties reached a historic high of 1,523 per day in November 2024. The single-day peak was over 2,000 casualties on November 28, 2024.
**Five Consecutive Months of Increasing Casualties**
November 2024 marked the fifth consecutive month of increasing Russian casualties. ISW reported that Russian forces suffered around 125,800 casualties from September to November 2024 while gaining 2,356 square kilometers of territory.
