Russian forces have seized several strategic settlements and points near Pokrovsk, and in multiple locations around Vuhledar.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, Russian forces gained territory near Pokrovsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast and Vuhledar on 26 October.
Geolocated footage of October 25-26 confirms Russian advance into several locations east and south of Pokrovsk. These include “the eastern outskirts” of Novotoretske and “the west of Novohrodivka,” as well as the Korotchenko waste heap northeast of Selydove and the northern Oleksandropil, according to the ISW.
Over the past year, Russia has focused on seizing Ukraine’s controlled areas in Donetsk Oblast. Major attacks have been repeated near Pokrovsk and Selydove as well as other towns
Since October 2023, Pokrovsk is the focal point of intense fighting involving Russian and Ukrainian forces. Russia launched major offensives in an attempt to seize control over western Donetsk oblast.
Russian military bloggers claim special forces units of the 71st Separate Spetsnaz Brigade have secured the waste pile near Selydove. They reportedly advanced one kilometer into Selydove. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its 110th Motorized rifle Brigade had captured Oleksandropil.
Geolocated footage from 26th October confirms that Russian forces have advanced west of Pobieda near Vuhledar. Additional footage shows Russian units moving north of Zolota-Nyva and around Prechystivka.
The ISW notes the presence of various Russian units in the area, including “elements from the Russian 74th Motorized Rifle Brigade” and “the Russian 14th Spetsnaz Brigade close to Bohoyavlenka.”
