Jeanne Shaheen, a US senator, has commented on the return to Georgia of Mikheil Saakashvili’s third President, saying that it would not benefit the country.
“I don‘t think it will ease the situation. The former president Saakashvili was given his chance in 2012, when he lost in free and fair election. I was an observer at the time and saw how the election was conducted. Saakashvili’s reputation grew in the years to come. I don’t think his return to the country will be helpful. In an interview with VOA, Shaheen said that the world is very interested in what will happen.
Mikheil Sakashvili released a video today stating that he was in Batumi and that he will be in Tbilisi October 3.
Georgian Dream‘s representatives strongly deny Saakashvili’s claim that he has already arrived in Georgia. The ruling party claims Saakashvili lies and is not in Georgia. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has also denied rumors of Saakashvili’s arrival and stated that he had not crossed the Georgian Border.
